The longer I have my indivudal work, the more I feel at home coming back to JUMP

― First, tell us your thoughts on drama Hidarime TanteiEYE
Okamoto: (Yamada) looks different from usual right?
Nakajima: He had mostly cool characters but it’s new that he’s not so much this time.
Chinen: He’s not exactly smart even though he’s a detective. I thought that’s something new to a detective series.

― Whether or not that was a compliment (laughs). How did you feel when the theme song Hitomi no Screen played?
Yamada: Very happy.
Nakajima: I thought “it’s on!” It’s been a while since our song was last played in a drama.
Yamada: It’s been a while since releasing a song as JUMP. Before filming the drama, I was told “you’ll also do the theme song” and I was very happy. The song itself was good too. It’s like modern but at the same time, it’s not.

― Like missed/old (song)?
Yamada: Exactly! Even though it’s more new to me (laughs). It’s like, something is different. I see this image of old town and a cool guy standing there. It was like Tora san and sunset.
Chinen: I thought it had old feeling too and great that we’re part of it.
Okamoto: It’s a catchy song. As for the song, it’s more Showa than Heisei (laughs).
Chinen: The line “youthful story” is new for our generation and my part “mayoi mayoi mayotte/ doubts doubts and hesitating” is different from the usual JUMP. We were more “straight to our dreams!” until now, with “doubts” coming in.
Nakajima: It shows how desperation to keep rising without losing to the present situation. We’re no stranger to that since we can relate to it.

― It’s cool that the dance looks unusual this time.
Morimoto: The dance moves are unique. It’s weird coming from me but I thought it looked cool.
Nakajima: This time, our idea was to line ourselves up so it’s made look cool with all 10 of us together. It has moderation with the slow tempo and chorus
Yamada: The song itself is easy to listen to and dance moves are easy to remember so it’d be nice if you learn it and feel pumped together. Also, perhaps you can something out of this song. Everyone has different ways of taking it in but it’ll be nice if you can feel something.

― Now on to the coupling songs Kagayaki Days and Romeo & Juliet. Kagayaki Days is sung by HSJ correct?
Okamoto: Yes, it’s a cut song right? It’s polar opposite of Hitomi no Screen. Tempo is pretty fast too.
Yamada: I just remember I had fun recording it. It was over before I knew it.
Nakajima: Didn’t you feel, we’re still at this level? It’s like songs like these are calming when we’re doing band corner during concerts.
Okamoto: As for having fun, I thought of the same for the other song Romeo & Juliet. This is like a duet with the audiences so it gets pretty pumped during live. I want everyone to hear it live than the CD.
Morimoto: Wasn’t it embarrassing to sing this during recording? Live is fine but not here (laughs).
Nakajima: It was awkward singing such a cute in front of the adult staffs. But as we sung during lives, we realized everyone got hyped up. Now, we sing it shamelessly while holding decorations.

―There were many responses that said “the place became one” from the readers who attended your concerts. This might be obvious for Hey!Say!JUMP who has great deal of experiences with lives but do you feel improved or stronger bonds after 3rd year?
Nakajima: You know how we sometimes mess up on live right? Well, I feel we improved when we can cover each other in certain situations. I can sense the team work.
Morimoto: Also in MC’s too. We used to talk and decide what we’ll talk about but lately, we just decide on the important part and other on adlibs.
Okamoto: I can laugh along with them when I’m not talking during MC (laughs). Since JUMP has 10 members, it was hard to notice if one was missing at first. But lately, I know who’s missing right away. Because our individual personality has gotten bigger.
Chinen: For me, my mood is starting to be same as usual when I’m with UMP. At first, I tried to be happy or thoughtful of others around me. Now I can just be myself.
Yamada: We can argue with each other in a good way too. Maybe that means our bonds has become stronger. Yabu kun and I are quite apart in age so I couldn’t say my opinions back then but I can say anything now. Yabu kun also understands that it means we’re growing as individual and listens to us.

― So more open in a way.
Yamada: Exactly. That’s why I want to maintain this relationship.The longer I have my solo work, the more I feel at home coming back to JUMP.
Chinen: That's right. I feel at home.

Q. Inoo kun said you’ll be studying design/layout a college next year during MC. If you were to design a stage for JUMP, what kind of stage would you design?
A. I’d like the stage to link the image (video) with us.

Q. Is there anything that made you happy or tough being a college student?
A. Good thing is that I get to learn all the stuff I didn’t know and meet new people with great ideas. My way of thinking has changed and lot of new perspectives. What’s tough are the tests.

Q. What’s the most enjoyable as a college student?
A. the moment the test ends.

Q. Tell me if there’s anything important to study for tests
A. If you take interests while studying the subject, I think it won’t be as tough.

Q. Is it hard to keep up with both college and work?
A. When I was studying Chinese, the members would come near me saying “what is that?” all the time and it’s the funniest thing. It’s hard but I think it’s worth it.

A. Yabu kun. He’s the tallest so I want to see what Yabu kun sees.

A. I guess it’s when we talk and laugh about stupid stuff on the way home from work.

A. Super Sento [bath house with different baths]. Lying baths are the best.

Q. What makes you relaxed the most?
A. After taking a bath, got everything set for tomorrow, and when all I have to do is sleep.

Q. Any rules in JUMP or guidelines?
A. You can only dye your hair after graduating high school.

Q. Is there a member who has funny habits?
A. (Yaotome) Hiakru kun. He touches his face like crazy or his side burns when he’s impatient.

Q. If you didn’t have this job, what kind of work did you want to have in the future?
A. Kindergarten teacher. I love little kids.

Q. What’s the most enjoyable song to sing to?
A. “Rome & Juliet” We performed it for the first time at the last concert. Both the audiences and the members all enjoyed the song.

Q. Is there anything changed about you after the play?
A. I appreciate JUMP more. I was going back and forth at one time and it was hard on my body but they supported me because they knew that. That made me think I’m really happy with these 10 members from bottom of my heart and even though I was alone on stage, I felt a sense of security of 10 members.

Q. Do you have a way of relaxing when you’re tired?
A. Aroma. Hikaru gave me aroma mist and I used it all during the stage.

Q. Did you hear member’s thoughts after watching the play?
A. They said “it wasn’t the usual Yabu kun”

Q. If you can switch place with a member for one day, who would it be?
A. Ryutaro and go back to middle school. Then, I want to eat school lunches. I want to eat agepan~ (deep fried bread).

Q. Is there a member who has funny habits?
A. Yuto. Since he loves drums, he’s usually beating his lap when music comes on or starts drum practices. Gosh, so annoying! (laughs).

Q. When does it make you feel happy to be working with this member?
A. When I’m doing concerts! So much fun!

Q. You said you wanted to learn something after graduation, is there anything new you started?
A. I’m still planning but I want to learn how to scuba dive and get license in the summer. I can’t swim but when I (scuba) last summer for the first time, I was hooked.

Q. What was the hardest on-locations?
A. When I was suspended down from a mountain to get rare iwatake (rocky fungus). To get there I had to walk in the mountain for over 6 hours to go there and come back. I came home stumbling.

Q. What’s a popular joke you’re into at the moment?
A. Of course I like jokes by Audrey, who I work with. When I greet them I say “toose!” and I say “this part of Hikaru is open” during concerts.
※Audrey, comedic duo. Mentioned above are both Kasuga’s jokes. Toose usually means hey & this part of Kasuga is open, while pointing to his sides means he’s open for relationship.

Q. If you can switch place with a member for one day, who would it be?
A. Probably Ino (Inoo) chan. I want to be Inoo chan and spend a day carefree.

Q. Any rules in JUMP or guidelines?
A. There’s been a MC standing place for concerts since debut. We did different positioning recently but it was too weird and everyone went back to their spots.

Q. When do you feel most relaxed?
A. My bed at home. But I mostly give a sigh of relief in the bathtub.

Q. Do you have any embarrassing experience?
A. Nope. I don’t usually feel embarrassed. I can walk in the streets of Shibuya alone, singing without any problem. Totally fine with people staring at me. Although my friends tell me “stop it’s embarrassing” (laughs).

Q. What do you do on your off?
A. Go on a vacation or on a drive with my friends. I like going to places without making plans.

Q. The members often call you childish but what kind of things made you think the most childish?
A. When they tell me “that’s childish” and I say “not childish” back getting all worked up. I get excited when it’s snowing too. I don’t want to lose that childish mind when I grow up.

Q. What makes you feel old?
A. My age. I’ll be a seijin in a year.
Seijin (20 yrs old) considered as an adult in Japan.

Q. If you can switch place with a member for one day, who would it be?
A. I want to be Chinen and do a back flip.

Q. Anything that made you feel matured lately?
A. That I’m starting to understand jokes. At first, I didn’t understand jokes when I joined JUMP and took everything seriously but now, I can take jokes and reply back with jokes as well.

Q. What do you like about your little brother, Shintaro kun?
A. I have so many but it’s when he’s serious about work and takes leadership in Snow Prince. We also tell each other about what’s good and what needs to be fix so we can both make improvements. I believe there are things only brothers can understand and say to each other.

Q. Is there a haircut you want to try next?
A. Blond (laughs)

Q. Tell us what you’re into lately.
A. Hair. I didn’t care for them at all before but I’ve been talking with Hikaru kun about what kind of cut would suit me and actually getting it cut and styled.

Q. I’d like to the mysterious or funny stories about the members.
A. Yabu chan bought a monster/creature book.

Q. Is there a member with funny habits?
A. Hikaru kun’s sneeze. It’s very cute (laughs).

Q. Is there a meaningful song for you?
A. There’s quite a lot but Misuchiru (Mr.Children)’s “Tomorrow never knows”. Singing alone where no one’s around seems cool. I also like all the Misuchiru’s songs including this song.

A. Here comes my least favorite subject already. “一石二鳥 (kill two birds with one stone)”? That’s about the only ones I know (laughs)

Q. You have a cool image but have you had any clumsy mistake lately?
A. I’m more of a clumsy person though. I trip at least 5 times a day and run into a pole at the train station. Pretty bad right?

Q. What’s your favorite English word?
A. Probably “Happy”

Q. How do I study to speak English so well as Okamoto kun?
A. Go overseas for a week or two. You learn a lot more from being around English for 24 hours in overseas than learn in Japan.

Q. If you could switch place with one of the members for a day, who would it be?
A. Inoo kun. Because he has drivers license. I really want to drive a car.

Q. Is there a rule or a system in JUMP?
A. No one puts their belongings on the table or chairs at interviews. We have so many people that we need room for others to sit.

A. Not yet. He’s probably busy with work so it’s very hard for me to contact him. Since anytime is fine for me, I’m just waiting for Ohno kun to invite me!

A. Cute, of course. It’s most likely something that can be said now and not many guys are called cute. That’s why, I think being said that is a very precious and pleasing thing for me.

Q. If you could switch place with one of the members for a day, who would it be?
A. Yama chan. I want to walk under a giant poster (of myself) in Shibuya and attract attention.

Q. What made you feel grateful for being one of the members?
A. When all 10 of us got together and moved to tears after the Tokyo Dome Concert. I felt thankful of being one of the members from bottom of my heart.

Q. Tell us mysterious thing about the members!
A. (Arioka) Dai chan. He’s usually really nice and tolerant. He’s kind of person who’ll laugh and forgive you after a little prank but a total stranger right after he wakes up (laughs). He’d finally wake up after I pull him up.

Q. Is there anything special you do or watch out for when dancing?
A. Dance big because my body is small.

Q. I see you as just running a lot in drama Hidarime Tantei EYE but do you do any training?
A. Running in drama is like my training so I don’t do anything. But, I actually hate running since I’m not a fast runner.

Q. Is there are role you want to try next? I’d like to see Yamada kun play a comic role.
A. Me too. Since I’m usually a like that (comedian).

Q. What’s Yamada kun’s favorite easy recipe?
A. Pour somen broth on deep fried eggplant and put ginger and dried bonito on top. It’s very simple but very good!

Q. If you could switch place with one of the members for a day, who would it be?
A. Yabu kun. I want to know what kind of stuff he wants to do or how he see things after turning 20.

Q. Does JUMP have a rule?
A. The rule is, we have no rules. It’d be boring if we did. Nothing strange would happen because we all have a foundation as a human being and free to do anything on it. There are no rules because we all trust each other.

Q. When do you feel most relaxed?
A. When I’m sleeping next to my dog Pamu.

Q. Is there anything you’re doing lately to build your body?
A. I want to focus on my chest muscles so I’m thinking about doing pushups. My arms got pretty big from drums and leg muscles from tap dance but my complex is that I have no muscles on my chest. I’m feeling down from looking wimpy in sexy photo shots because of that (laughs). I’d like to aim for a buff guy!

Q. How do you get back on your feet when you’re feeling down?
A. I’m usually pretty negative. I know that’s not good so when I’m feeling down, I tell myself “it’s fine, it’s fine” and get hold of myself.

Q. If you were to switch place with one of the members for a day?
A. Turn into Yabu kun and watch bunch of Johnny Depp movies. I like him too but I’d like to see it in Yabu kun’s perspective.

Q. Does JUMP have a rule?
A. When there’s tons of drinks and snacks at work, (Arioka) Dai chan is told to have one at a time but I love snacks that I open all of them. I guess this is more like my own rule than JUMP’s rule (laughs).
